Mission & Calling
Why a Movie?
Films are more than information or entertainment. It’s one of the most powerful storytelling tools.
And a good story, told well — that can catalyze faith.
What I’m Aimed At
Films that 1. equip the saint for the work of ministry, 2. love my neighbor, 3. advance the Great Commission. Or best-of-all, some combination of the three.
The Result
Powerful films that serve the local church.
So let’s do that together, let’s make something beautiful.
An Autobiography
Really, it all started with my dad.
With that bulky VHS camera often on his shoulder, my father starting how movies were made starting at an age where I could barely comprehend. His whole life he has loved a good story, and he clearly wanted to instill that in me, reading to me nearly every night was I was little.
I think he accomplished that goal. With great passion and patience, my father taught me to love stories, to wonder at what could be, and appreciate the magic of the moving image.
Clips from a home movie that was made as a means for my dad to teach me how you could “clone” someone with shot-reverse-shot.
Around 12 the Lord arranged several, what at the time seemed trivial, things to line up. My brother started passing along a few lessons from his college video production class - chiefly important was how to use Premiere 2.0. My grandmother bought me a MiniDV camera for Christmas. And there was a bunch of filmmaking tutorials on this new platform called “YouTube”.
It’s been a decade now,
that I’ve been working in film industry. I’ve taken on various roles on sets big & small: feature films, TV shows, music videos, commercials, corporate projects, documentaries, and indie short films.
By far, the greatest privilege has been serving for nearly four years as Christ Covenant’s Storyteller. The Lord transformed me and radically refined my film making. It was through my church a theological framework was forged. A framework which now drives my approach to filmmaking.
Give me a shout!
Let’s discuss how we can work together!
